One ranking policeman who jumped to the help of a fellow officer who was ambushed by a knifeman has been awarded the King's Commendation for Valor.

Sergeant Tim Ansell fought with 27-yr-old Jacob Brown following he placed a knife to the neck of his colleague Sergeant Marc Foster.

Brown began the violence as the law enforcement personnel and their colleague, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were speaking to a driver after a road collision in that location in summer 2023.

Brown knifed and cut the two Sgt Ansell and Sergeant Foster prior to PC Wolstencroft incapacitated him with a electric weapon.

"Policeman attacked," the officer stated over his radio.

Officer-mounted and dashboard camera recording shared by the police department showed Brown, wearing in black with a head covered, rush to Sergeant Foster from the rear with a knife pointed forward.

He ran into the policeman who tripped and went down to the ground, after which Sergeant Ansell stepped in and struggled to restrain him to the pavement despite being continually attacked with the weapon.

Police Constable Wolstencroft pulled his stun gun and waited for a clear shot, ending the fight to an finish.

Sgt Ansell stated audibly: "Can I get something on my throat here, I got knifed in the throat."

Sergeant Ansell sustained multiple deep cuts to his throat and more cuts to his arms and body, whereas Sgt Foster experienced slash wounds.

Authorities reported Sgt Foster utilized his palms to stem his partner's blood loss prior to emergency responders came.

The latest honor follows after the law enforcement team won internal Courage Honors in October 2023 and the John Egerton Bravery Award from the regional officer association in spring 2024.

They further earned a Area Courage Honor in summer 2024.

"The efforts of the entire team in the end rescued themselves and resulted in no civilians endured any harm."

Brown received a sentence to an psychiatric detention in early 2024, according to authorities.
