China's Ice Dancers Under Probe Following Holding Prop Weapon during Competition

ISU officials are conducting an investigation after a pair of Chinese ice dancers appeared holding what looked like a toy ballistic missile during an international skating competition.

Broadcast video captured the skaters waiting alongside a sizable prop in the form of a missile marked “DF-61” while waiting for the judges' results in the “kiss and cry” area during the event.

This model represents a recently introduced Chinese-made ground-launched long-range weapon designed for transporting atomic warheads, which was displayed at a military parade last month.

“The ISU is aware of an unsuitable soft toy appears to have been one of the objects thrown on to the rink by audience members after a performance at the ISU Figure Skating Grand Prix Cup of China event,” the ISU commented via a release.

The item was then handled by the athletes after their performance. The ISU apologizes for this occurrence and will investigate further.”

Ren and Xing finished in eighth place out of ten teams during the ice dancing competition, which was won by the American pair from the US.
